What is technical diving?

Technical diving goes beyond the limits of recreational diving – involving decompression stops, mixed gases, and advanced dive planning. Tec divers explore deeper sites, penetrate wrecks and caves, and require specialised training to manage the increased risks that come with extended range diving.

Whether you're preparing for advanced nitrox, decompression, or extended range certifications: our free online practice exams cover the theory you need – gas physics, decompression theory, equipment configuration, and emergency procedures for technical diving. This site is independent and not connected to any training agency.

Who are technical diving exams for?

These exams are designed for experienced recreational divers transitioning to technical diving as well as active tec divers preparing for their next certification level. A solid understanding of recreational diving fundamentals is assumed.

Technical diving theory is more demanding – but practising online allows you to study complex topics like gas management and decompression algorithms at your own pace before your formal training begins.

What topics do the technical exams cover?

  • Advanced gas physics – partial pressures, oxygen toxicity, equivalent narcotic depth
  • Decompression theory – algorithms, gradient factors, contingency planning
  • Gas blending – Nitrox, Trimix, Heliox mixing and analysis
  • Equipment configuration – twinsets, sidemount, stage bottles, redundancy
  • Advanced dive planning – runtime calculations, gas consumption, bailout procedures
  • Emergency management – gas sharing at depth, lost deco gas, equipment failures

Why practise technical theory online?

Technical diving courses are intensive and the theory is significantly more complex than recreational courses. Practising online before your actual course means you can focus on understanding rather than memorisation during class time. All practice exams on Scubatest.online are free, without time limits, and can be repeated until you're confident – giving you the best possible preparation for your tec certification.
