What is recreational diving?
Recreational diving is the most popular form of scuba diving – enjoyed by millions of divers worldwide for leisure, exploration, and underwater photography. Recreational certifications cover depths up to 40 metres and do not require decompression stops, making them the ideal starting point for anyone who wants to explore the underwater world.
Whether you're training for a beginner certification (e.g. Open Water Diver), an advanced course, or a speciality: Our free online practice exams help you prepare for the theory part of your dive course – at your own pace and as often as you like. This site is independent and not connected to any training agency.
Who are recreational diving exams for?
These exams are designed for beginner divers taking their first scuba course as well as experienced recreational divers looking to advance or refresh their knowledge. Topics include dive physics, physiology, equipment handling, dive planning, and environmental awareness.
The content is system-independent: regardless of which training agency your dive school follows (e.g. PADI, SSI, CMAS, or others), the fundamentals tested here apply universally.
What topics do the recreational exams cover?
- Dive physics – pressure, buoyancy, gas laws (Boyle, Henry, Dalton)
- Dive physiology – effects of pressure on the body, decompression sickness, nitrogen narcosis
- Equipment knowledge – regulators, BCDs, dive computers, exposure suits
- Dive planning – tables, no-decompression limits, buddy checks
- Underwater navigation and communication
- Environmental awareness and responsible diving
Why practise online before your dive course?
Practicing theory exams online gives you a head start before your actual certification course. You'll arrive at your dive school already familiar with the key concepts, which means less stress during the classroom sessions and more confidence in the water. All practice exams on Scubatest.online are free, without time limits, and can be repeated as often as needed – like a digital dress rehearsal for the real exam.
